NUSI launches Mission - 25,000 Petition
The National Union of Seafarers of India popularly known as NUSI for many years espoused the vision ofhaving social benefits for all ranks of merchant navy seafarers serving on cargo or cruise ships of Indian and foreign flags. NUSI has now decided to turn its vision into a Mission. On the occasion of the celebration of 74th Indian Independence Day, NUSI has taken up with the Prime Minister once again the long pending matters ofPension, Gratuity, Provident Fund, Priority in travel for seafarers and Voting Rights for onboard seafarers.
NUSI has advised all ranks of merchant navy seafarers, serving on cargo or cruise ships of Indian and foreign flags alongwith their families to send a petition in prescribed format to the Hon’ble Prime Minister at email: connect@mygov.nic.in and copy to NUSI email: nusi@nusi.org.in to make seafarers case stronger.
More than 3,50,000 Indian seafarers consisting of all ranks have not been receiving welfare benefits whereas all shore employees have beenreceivingit for last 75 years.
Seafarers who are categorized as “essential workers”haven’t been receiving social benefits the essential workers are entitled to.
NUSIhasurged all ranks of seafarers on cargo/cruise on both Indian and foreign flag ships alongwith their families to send the petition without wasting any time. There has alreadybeena tremendous response from seafarers of all ranks.NUSI is aimingto receiveminimum of 25,000 petitions to start with, which will be circulated as the FIRST LIST of 25,000 petitioners with name, rank and CDC no. including the names of family membersgiving seafarers once-in-a-lifetime chance to be part of the historic movement.
