Action in event of Man Overboard

For their own safety guests should not be allowed to stand or sit on the ships side rails, any crew member observing a guest doing so must approach the, guest and advise them that their actions are extremely dangerous.

Any crew member who is working beyond the ships side rails, at open shell doors, on the tendering pontoons or lifeboats is required to wear appropriate personal protective equipment including a life jacket/ work vest.

Should you see somebody fall over the side you should take the following action;

1. Shout "MAN OVERBOARD STARBOARD/PORT SIDE

2. Throw a life ring or anything else that will float

Some of the life rings are fitted with lights which activate automatically on contact with water - if it is dark throw one of these!

3. Contact the Bridge immediately

4 Try and keep the person in sight

It is extremely important to try and keep the person in sight, once sight is lost.

It is very difficult to find them again. The Rescue Boat crew will assemble at the Rescue Boats upon hearing the announcement from the bridge

Action in Event of A Fire

The first indication of a fire onboard is usually smelling or seeing smoke, upon Finding smoke or fire you must first raise the alarm by breaking the nearest of Manual Call Point and/or calling the Bridge on the nearest telephone. Give the exact location of the fire and If Possible provide information on what is on fire, the size of the fire and if there are any possible victims involved.

You should then CALMLY info all Guests and Crew Members in the surrounding rooms to evacuate the area, direct them on a route that takes them away from the smoke and/or fire.

While waiting for the fire teams to arrive you should Isolate the fire by closing cabin doors and fire screen doors in the area. You should also Restrict access to the area- have other crew members assist you if necessary and do not ailow anyone to go near the smoke or fire area.

If the fire is small and can be put out by the proper use of an extinguisher, and you are confident in the use of the extinguisher, then you may try and Extinguish the fire. Otherwise, clear the area and wait nearby to inform the fire team of the situation.

If you are unsure as to how to use the fire extinguisher, then do not attempt to put the fire out. Improper use of an extinguisher may create a larger fire and could possibly put your life in danger.

Remember: Put your own safety first - your duty is to alert the bridge attempt to extinguish only if you are confident to do so & ONLY after informing the bridge!

When the Fire Team arrives, inform them of the nature and extend of the fire and the steps which have been taken prior to their arrival. The fire teams have been properly trained to extinguish all types of shipboard tires and stabilise the situation once the fire has been put out.

Remember:

F ind a fire activate nearest Manual Call Point and/ or call the bridge

I solate the area close doors and fire screen doors

R estrict access to the area post crew members at entrances to prevent persons entering

E xtinguish - if you are confident to do so - if not evacuate the area

Should you suspect that there may be a fire always inform the bridge you will never get into trouble for reporting a possible fire!
