Chapter 3
There are many reasons for ensuring that we adopt high standards of food safety, but the main ones are:
To CAUSE NO HARM to others.
To be compliant with food safety laws.
Reduce food wastage. Food that is contaminated needs to be thrown out.
Improve workplace efficiency. Not having to prepare new food, should food become contaminated which results in a waste of time and money.
Increase customer satisfaction and repeat customers. Customers would not visit an establishment that has a reputation for poor food hygiene and safety.
Create an excellent business reputation and increased revenue.
Avoid financial costs such as fines and legal costs for non-compliance with food safety laws.
Activity:
Look up online, food safety legislation of your country and read through it. Does the legislation impose any penalties or fines to food service businesses that are not adhering to the required standards of food safety? Please share your findings. It is interesting to see how the various countries apply their legislation.
